ROSS’S GULL

Lytham St. Anne’s, Lancashire - 4th May 2008.

This exceptionally obliging adult Ross’s Gull had been present around the Fairhaven Lake area and surrounding beach at Lytham St.Anne’s for nearly three weeks. The bird appeared to still be in winter plumage apart from the obvious pink-flushed underparts, which are typical of summer plumaged Ross’s Gull. Very tame, allowing views down to 15 feet on occasions. The bird was viewed in some horrendous weather for the time of year. Gale force wind and heavy rain made digiscoping almost impossible at times, so I am well pleased with these results.
